Abstract

Professional development of teachers is essential to raising student achievement. Because professional development encompasses multiple facets and adjustments during an educator's career. The ability of a teacher to oversee the teaching and learning process is known as professional competence. The capacity to drive learning is supported by instructional tactics, media, classroom management, and subject matter expertise. These are technical qualities that are directly related to the effectiveness of a teacher. The aim of the study was to determine of the factors affecting professional competency of secondary school teachers of Karachi. The extent of the study was limited to secondary schools of Karachi. Two hypotheses were formulated. A comprehensive analysis of the literature was done. The strategy of research was survey. All the secondary school teachers were part of the population. A sample of 300 secondary school teachers was drawn through stratified random sampling design. Questionnaire and interview protocol were used to collect data. Data were analyzed and it is found that the that the majority of the teachers are continuously make them up to date and use appropriate means and make maximum efforts for their professional development
