Abstract

The rapid expansion of digital space and social networks has transformed communication whilst fostering new forms of deviant behaviour. User anonymity, shifting boundaries of publicity, and algorithmic content reinforcement create conditions conducive to virtual aggression, provocation, and hooliganism. This study provides theoretical and methodological justification for hooliganism's transformation in digital environments, identifying key social, psychological, and cultural factors determining new forms of deviant behaviour and proposing prevention strategies for the modern information society. The study employs an interdisciplinary approach combining content analysis of scholarly publications, comparative analysis of international and domestic research, and socio-psychological interpretation of digital user aggression mechanisms. The methodological framework draws upon social deviance theory, behavioural psychology, and digital communication studies. Digital hooliganism results from complex interactions between psychological, social, and technological factors that influence behavioural patterns. Social networks not only broadcast deviant actions but actively reinforce them through algorithmic popularity rewards. Moral disengagement, emotional contagion, and group identification effects create cyclical mechanisms that normalise aggression in online communities. Effective counteraction to digital bullying requires systematic integration of educational, legal, and technological tools aimed at enhancing digital ethics and developing robust user self-regulation mechanisms. The scientific novelty lies in identifying a comprehensive system of interrelated socio-psychological and algorithmic factors enabling the transition from individual aggression to collective digital bullying, and in formulating the concept of safe digital interaction as the foundation for preventing deviant practices. The practical significance resides in applying these findings to develop educational programmes on digital ethics, institutional digital security policies, and algorithms for detecting toxic content. The proposed four-principle model – education, algorithmic responsibility, institutional coordination, and social visibility of ethical behaviour – provides a framework for shaping cultures of safe communication on social networks.
